This weekend I flipped through the free movies and I noticed this movie.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, starring James Dunn, Dorothy McGuire and Peggy Ann Garner. Jimmy Dunn won the Academy Award for “Best Supporting Actor” for his performance and was well deserved.
I have always heard of the title but never had a chance to see it. Time Warner, my cable company offered it free, so I a thought why not?
Originally a book:
Then later a movie in 1945.
What an unexpected treasure. I recognized most of the old songs we sang in grade school music room.
It’s done in black and white, but the filming was done so well and fits the tone, you don’t even notice it.
A sweet family, a true American story.
This family knew what it meant to sacrifice and to dream.
I want to watch this again someday. I hope if you haven’t seen it yet that you do watch it. It is just lovely!
“My cup runneth over.”
I absolutely LOVE this book! I didn’t know there was a movie! I’ll have to look for it!
I hope if you see it, you enjoy it. I sure did, but maybe because I never read the book. My mom did both and said there were subtle differences.
This is my favorite book, I never grow tired of reading it. While I didnt like the movie as much I love the book and own about 10 different copies because when people find out you like something you get more of the same thing
Movies are never as good as they books, why is that?
