Humble Pie

Holy Crap!  What a bone head.  I completely brought the company network down yesterday until I realized it was a hub in my office that was configured incorrectly and doing a loopback!

Note to self, those little hubs that look so innocent are far from it.

(not exactly like this, but similar.)

I’ve been using them for years, but was very careless yesterday.

I was in a hurry and not paying attention  There is so much spaghetti wiring in my office, it was bound to happen.

It even took down the VOIP system.  Phones.

Today I was waiting for my boss to rip me a new one and then he came in and gave me  chocolate.  He knows that I’m pretty embarrassed.

It was a rookie mistake and I have been at this for years.  Expletive here!

But my fellow employees are really having a great time at my expense.

I totally deserve it.

OMG, if I worked in a bank or hospital, can you imagine.  I am so upset with myself!  I haven’t slept a wink.

I know that time will make me feel better, but I will never forget this.

Sucks to be me right now.

Don’t forget to enter for the Dream Home!  Every once in awhile I am gonna remind you!  I want one of us to win!!

  1. Have to say I made a rookie mistake yesterday as well. Made it as good as I can get it but it was humbling. Keep your chin up!

    • Thank you Pamela! Maybe it was just something about yesterday. Boy those rookie mistakes are the worst! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are feeling better too. I have read if you are not making mistakes you are not learning. I can guarantee I will always be more careful when messing with those darn hubs and I will never forget what that broadcast storm looked like!

  2. Aw, it happens to all of us. 😦 I once blew up the entire fuse box in my office by plugging the wrong color wires into one another. It was the dumbest thing I’ve done, and embarrassing. Took a few weeks to get over that one lol. At least your boss isn’t an ass. 🙂 And I just entered again…Tahoe here we come!

    • I entered today too, keep entering!!!! We will win it! Thanks for sharing the colored wire story. Misery loves company for sure. Its nice to know I am not alone! doh!

  3. Oops. Talk about embarrassment. But you’re taking it like a champ, and I’m glad to hear that your co-workers and bosses arent just grilling you about it forever. It will be something to laugh about later, hopefully. For now, just try to focus on other things, because you may over-stress yourself and let something similar slip by!

    • Too true. I am pretty stressed about it and don’t want to mess up anything else. My boss is so great! He took me to lunch and was like “don’t worry, we all make mistakes”. I was grateful for him today!

  4. Ack! What a mess. So very sorry for you.

If it makes you feel better, I once broke a bottle in chem storage (really not my fault, but that explanation involves the structural integrity of glass)… and the whole building had to be evacuated. Basically, the fumes got into the air circulation and we all had to go outside while the building aired out. All hundred and fifty of us.

    • Oh no! I shut down quite a few people included the GM. I think I lost all credibility with him, but he still copies me on his emails when he needs assistance because he knows I will respond if others don’t. I will never ever make that bonehead mistake again! LOL
