Two New Things

Hello!  I hope this post finds you well!

I was so excited to make this Bone Marrow Soup because I heard of all the great health benefits.  However, I was not excited to take hours to do it.

I remembered that my daughters dad had this:


I borrowed it.  BRAND NEW never used digital Pressure Cooker.  I hope I get to keep it.  He never uses it.   Can you imagine the time saving meals not to mention the cheap cuts of meat that you can cook in so little time and have them come out tasting like the most expensive cuts?  Heart pounding stuff, I tell ya!  Winking smile

I’ve never used a pressure cooker before so it was kind of fun to try and a little scary!  You hear stories.  But this is not your Grandmothers cooker!  So easy!

Those are the two new things I am super excited about.  Pressure Cooker and Bone Marrow Soup.

Here’s the way I made the soup!

I bought these bones, um not cheap!  The butcher cut them especially for me.  I probably won’t do that again.


I roasted them first because it brings out flavor and I heard it helps them smell better while  you cook them.  They stink?  Awesome.

350 for an hour.


These are the rest of the ingredients I used because I modified it slightly.


When finished roasting, I put all the ingredients in the pressure cooker pot and covered with water.


It was done about 60 minutes later as opposed to 12 hours!

Then I strained it and put it in the fridge.

This morning I was supposed to wake up to gelatin.  That did not happen.  I’ve gotten more gelatin from regular carcass soup broth.  Next time I make my regular soup I will toss in a couple of marrow bones for good measure.   Or I might try it again when bones are on sale.

I’m having some of the soup today but I think most of it will get used to make rice or added to other soup bases.  It will go in the freezer.

The health benefits are supposed to be great for your skin because of the collagen and great for your digestion as well.  Both of which I need help with!

The source above has a good recipe for chicken marrow soup and here’s the pressure cooker recipe that I used and modified a bit.  I could not find fish sauce.


I can’t wait to use the pressure cooker for roasts.  This specific cooker doubles as a crock pot as well, that will be good to try.  My crock pot small and old but I am not willing to give it up yet and this isn’t mine…yet.

Not sure how I’m feeling.  I’m at work and trying to be productive and trying to make it through each day as successfully as I can.  I have to keep telling myself that I only started my new meds on Tuesday!  Rome wasn’t built in a day.

  1. I mentioned this post to my husband this morning and he was so excited about both the bone marrow soup and the pressure cooker. He has wanted one FOREVER and I cannot recall ever seeing an electronic one. Sorry the soup did not turn out as you expected.

    • It still tastes really good! Go check these cookers out online, its so cool. I emailed the lady at the website and asked her to tske a look and see where i went wrong. I think too much water. But it still has so much goodness!!! I think I am rather pleased with it!!! I hope you get one too!

      • Christmas is coming, and while we do not routinely exchange gifts, I’m teetering on the edge about updating to an iPad air (at his insistence; I think he feels guilty his iPhone 6Plus has arrived and mine has not) and would love to get him a pressure cooker. Now that I “know” someone who has one and has used it successfully, I’ll start my hunt on Amazon this evening.

  2. This one belonged to my daughters grandma who passed ladt year. She bought it on QVC who i think have expensive prices. But google pressure cooking videos and you can see how easy! I hope you get the gift you wish for!

    • It was fun! And i have had two cups today. I plan on making it again but with chicken bones and slow cook 24 hours! I think i am addicted. Xoxo
