A Little Help

Hello! I hope your weekend is going well.

It is ridiculously hot here.  I mean stupid hot.   I cannot even show you the forecast, because frankly, I don’t want to see it.  You probably dream of So. Cal. weather if you live on the East Coast… but… we are over it.

It was so hot yesterday there was no way I could even walk with my kid for one hole on her tournament.  It was super windy too which made for higher scores and unhappy golfers.   Today less wind though, so I am excited to see how she plays.

After I dropped her off yesterday I thought fantasized about all the things I would do on my way home.  I had a huge list of things to clean and get done.

Basically, I got home and stayed on the couch napping the whole day.  I did put in a load of laundry but that was it.  It was awful.  The tub needs cleaning, the floors are so dirty, there is dust an inch thick and lets not even talk about the doors and baseboard grime and dirt.

I had an idea!  What if I can get a little help?

Yep, Molly Maids to the recue.  I mean, its not just for rich people right? Its also for people who have illness and cannot do it all themselves?

I called them to see how much for a crew to come and clean my itty bitty space.  The quote is $120.00 for two women to come and spend two hours.  I’m so happy and relieved.   I cannot tell you how my stress level has dropped.  Like right after I hung up!

I mean, I’m stressed about the $$$ but I will figure it out.  I will!  I need this.  I can’t do everything by myself.  Yes, I know I have a teen girl and that means free child labor!  I can’t do it to her either, she golf’s every day, does her homework and yes, she does some chores, but this kind of cleaning is not fair to ask of her.

Of all the things I could do for myself, this is the one thing that would impact me the most.  I hope I can afford it.  Things are really tight, but I have to make this work.   I am thinking just once a month for as long as I can.

It won’t be forever.  I hope the medication does not make me feel like this forever.   Just working is such an energy suck and that is priority.

I have to keep my space clean because the new med is immune suppressant and I cannot afford to get sick.

This is just the best idea on all levels.

The service can take care of all the basic deep cleanings and then I can take care of the fridge and other things like that.  It really makes me feel like I can handle it with this help!  It’s just too much to do for me alone.

Sometimes its a good idea to ask for help even if you have to pay for it.

I’ll figure it out.  I really hope it does make a difference!

  1. I’m not much of a deep cleaner. I try to keep things de-cluttered, but I’m pretty lax about deep cleaning. With some unusual cleaning energy, yesterday I cleaned out my garage after the winter salt, cinders, leaves, etc. This morning I deep cleaned my mud room. It is amazing how much better you feel when something is really clean. I’ve been a total cleaning geek and just walk out in my garage for no reason to admire the difference. I’m saying all if this because the $120 may have more benefits than just a clean house, but the benefit of the way it will make you feel. Hope today is a good day for you. Here in Columbia we’re having some nice weather. 60 and sunny feels like a tropical vacation compared to our winter.

    • I have done that. I clean out a closet and then find myself going back and looking at it. There is something so satisfying about it. Glad you are getting some nice weather!!!

  2. If it helps lower stress then it’s worth having.

I have issues that border on true craziness about my house being clean so if there is on speck it throws me into panic. See, if I couldn’t clean then I would have to have someone do it for me.

You need help nothing wrong with getting it.

    • Well, you told me to get help and I think your suggestion gave me the spark I needed. I hope it works out. I hope I feel more oganized and the place is cleaner. It really needs to be, I plan on asking them to sanitize every surface!

  3. Look for Living Social and Groupon coupons for maid services. You can usually pick them up for about $45 (plus tip).

  4. Debtgirl I wholeheartedly agree that this would be fab for you. Another blogger I read (CTMOM) has some health (joint?) issues and hires a housekeeping service once a month for a deep clean and then she and her kids do the other daily stuff. She is also on a tight budget. But please factor in a small cash tip for each woman.

Please also take a good hard look at what you are spending and determine what you are either going to cut out or make substitutions on so that this can become a regular expense. Your daughter will have a lot more expenses coming up and you don’t want to have to pick and choose. Food is usually the easiest area (in theory) to adjust the spending. I always think if it means rice and beans twice a week plus simple pasta but it frees up some money then it’s an easy (but still tasty!) substitution.

Also maybe sit with your daughter to figure out a couple of ways to cut back to afford this. It’s a luxury but a needed one (for some – it’s admittedly a pure splurge for me) and definitely well worth it!

  5. I’ve been thinking the exact same thing. I too have health issues( cancer) under control, but I can only do so much. I’ve been thinking of having some one come in once a month too. Our house is under 1000 sq feet and I do zone cleaning( flylady), but lately I just feel I cant keep up. Especially since January I’ve had way more issues, a bone marrow biopsy ,tons of tests and I’m still on an oral chem. so….. I’m with you, you should do it if you can swing it.

    • My place is very small as well, under 1K. I know some people think that it is easy to keep clean a smaller place, but I think it is harder because you truly live in every single square inch.
I hope you are feeling better and if you can swing it, do it! I think it will make a difference.

  6. I think this is a great idea! After reading other comments, I just hopped on Groupon. There are TONS of deals for the Atlanta area, so you should definitely check it out for yours. $25-$49 deals here for 2-4 hour cleanings. Of course I’m not within the 25 mile travel limit, boo, but I’ll keep an eye out. That’s the downside of living in the boonies. I might hint at some friends and family that a cleaning service would make a fabulous baby gift lol.

    • I am so excited. There are some groupons avail in my area! I need to research them. I think you should consider it too! It will be so nice and really help me out physically as well as mentally. DO IT!
